Sir Visvesvaraya was born in a remote village in the beautiful state of Karnataka called as Muddenahalli. The block system of irrigation designed by Visvesvaraya is a great achievement which was designed and developed at the instance of President of Indian Irrigation Commission. There he came in touch with Mahadeo Govind Ranade, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

After this achievement, Sir Visvesvaraya added one more feather to his hat by designing a patented system of automatic gates to control the floods in the water reservoir, which were first deployed at Khadakvasla reservoir near Pune. After a lot more such achievements, Sir Visvesvaraya served as the Diwan of Mysore.

The achievements that he got in the field of engineering and the upsteps that he took in his life are immeasurable. For these achievements, Indian government honored him with India’s highest honor, the Bharat Ratna in 1955.
